Stumbled upon these 'firebird' exploding air rifle targets today

http://firebirdtargets.co.uk/air-rifle-targets.html

And wondered if they could be used in games to mark 'weak points' on buidlings and vehicles, like fuel tanks or generators etc so that a well aimed bb could disable a vehicle or bunker as well as a grenade?

I always find the 'bullet proof jeep' that stirling type games are so fondof a bit daft but one of these on the opposite side to the fuel cap (just to be safe) represnting the fuel tank and one of the radiator grill might be good fun?

actually forget it, seems the safety distance is 25ft!

Be impossible to keep players that far from an objective.

You could always change the charge being used!

Yeah but the one in it isnt that 'bang' and i have a feeling the safety distance is so hi because the container is metal, i bet if it were in a card sleeve it would be half that.

It's less than the safety distance of firing blank at someone on an exercise but still quite high.

I seem to recall blank rounds needs 30 metres clearance as you can get metal splinters off the casings expelled with the gases.

Might be 30ft, its ten years since i arranged any stuff like that.

Heh, it wouldn't be 'well aimed bb's' though - chaps would hose the area hoping for a hit. Dougs' armoured jeep was shot to shit rather pointlessly to no purpose! A laser targeted bazooka has to be the way forward - single trigger pull then reloaded - the shot is either on target or not.

My thought were that if these are 'air rifle' detonated you might be struggling to punch one out with most 330fps type guns at anything other than really close whereas a sniper might still have the velocity/impact at range?

Only if you don't mind me shooting one at your car as it drives past?

Pretty certain an air rifle pellet would go straight through my doors! :D

Or indeed BB's through canvas roofs or plastic windows. I think the concept of 'shooting' at vehicles is a bit flawed anyway - needs to be done properly with physical pyro, safe projectiles or virtual projectiles. Or Molotov cocktails, which will be a first at Porta's December game :good: A spring powered Piat should be both easy to produce and safe to use though...

Yes, given the nature of airsoft weapons, they are just BB magnets and it all getsa a bit silly.

At First & Only, vehicles can only be destroyed by close assault. Step1 - immobilise the vehicle with a smoke placed in front of it. Step 2, physically run up to it and slap it.

This is actually much harder than it sounds, as you need to set up a proper AT ambush to place the smoke and any sort of infantry escort soon sees off step 2.

Hah! I was thinking along the lines of a foam nerf-type thing (painted OD, not multicoloured!). Gawd, wouldn't like to be a driver with a small football-sized projectile arcing towards the windscreen.

Joshs bazooka/panzerfaust thing fires nerf rockets, that works well enough as a launcher, just got to hope the crew hear it impact.

That reminds me, there is a nerf rocket out in the woods somewhere - it flew off and couldn't be relocated. Damn, there was some litter left behind.

I believe that it actually was relocated by a member of the allied team, spoils of war I suppose :giggle:

Webby's bazooka only works if I'm sat at the other end detonating the shit load of pyro in the target vehicle...

I started my Panzerschreck years back but never finished it.
I got a set of cheap kids laser tag units to fit inside £15 and the range was not bad.

Too many projects
